The Next Step Program
 
The Next Step:
  • Free Help for Young Adults, age 16 to 21
  • All You Need To Get and Keep a Good Paying Job
Eligibility:  Must be out-of-school, between the ages of 16 to 21, must meet low-income family financial criteria
  • G.E.D. Help
  • Career Guidance Based On Abilities and Interests
  • Skill Training
  • Job Placement
  • Transportation
The Next Step is a free program to help young adults (between the ages of 16 and 21) who need a G.E.D., career guidance or skill training, to find and keep good paying jobs.
Earn Your G.E.D.
If you didn’t complete your high school education, The Next Step can help you prepare for and pass the General Educational Development test, the high school equivalency diploma test.  We’ll help you find the best place and times for you to attend G.E.D. preparatory classes.
The Next Step also can help with the tutoring and study skills training.  The classes and tests are free.
Find Your Career
Have your G.E.D. or high school diploma but out of work or in a dead-end job?  The Next Step will assess your skills, listen to your goals, evaluate your abilities and help you find the highest paying job in the right career for you.
Enjoy Personal Coaching
The Next Step coach develops an individual career path for each participant.  Once you decide on a career goal, The Next Step coach suggests skill training and courses to place you in the best paying job in the fastest time.  No more low-paying, dead-end jobs!
Get Free Training
The Next Step program offers free training for many well-paying jobs including:
  • Computer professional
  • Nurse and nurse’s aide
  • Hospitality manager
  • Truck driver
  • Electrician
  • Cosmetologist
  • Medical transcriber
  • Retail manager
You may be eligible for college tuition also.
Job training may also include internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, mentoring, paid and unpaid work experiences.

The Next Step program offers links to other community services such as transportation and child care help, referrals to medical services, dependent care and housing services.
